The Capilano Rugby Club runs the Mini/Youth program from September to May. Registration typically opens in August ahead of the season starting.

The fundamentals of rugby begin to be taught. Non-contact rugby is played with the use of "tagging" or flags. Passing skills are further developed and basic rugby gameplay begins to be taught.

Rugby gameplay advances with larger sized games. Non-contact rugby is played with the use of "tagging" or flags. Basic kicking skills being to be developed.

U10

Transition to contact rugby begins. Focus on the safety aspects of proper tackle technique. Basic lineouts and scrums are introduced. Development of ball skills advance. Rucking basics introduced. Players should have mouthguards at all training sessions.

Contact games begin with maximum 13 players per team. Kicking in open play begins. Scrum and lineout skills further develop as numbers permitted in each increase to 6 vs 6. Rucking skills further develop past 1 vs 1 rucks. Coaches no longer on the field during game play.

Full field games with 15 players per side. Strategy within gameplay advances. Full sided scrums and lineouts. Ball skills advance and goal kicking permitted. Certified referees required for all games.

All rugby skills further advance towards senior rugby levels. World Rugby Laws applied to all gameplay. Team structure and game strategy advances. Player responsibility within the team increases.

Final preparation before senior rugby. Knowledge gained towards introduction of playing in senior competitions with no age bands. Full World Rugby Laws applied to all gameplay. Leadership skills further developed.
